Blizzard Community Manager Draztal has been busy on the EU forums today, revealing, amongst other things, some interesting information on Blizzard’s new ideas for reputation gains and lesser charms.

Complaints about Mists‘ focus on daily quests have been plentiful, and acknowledged in various interviews by various members of Blizzard’s development team. They have not abated, and it looks like Blizzard are feeling ready to allow the Community Managers to release limited information on their proposed solutions.

Splitting Draztal’s post into two parts, he first addresses the repeated request for reputation tabards:

title says it all.

I really dont want to do dailies every day.

I guess you might like this… The developers are currently planning to include bonus reputation that can be earned via scenarios and dungeons. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be through tabards and in the exact same way as back in the days, but sounds close enough to what you want!

50% off all Blizzard store mounts this week

Dec 4, 2012   //   by JeremySmith   //   Blog  //  No Comments

50offmounts 50% off all Blizzard store mounts this week
This offer was just announced by Blizzard in the EU, and if previous promotions are anything to go by, it will be announced by Blizzard US very shortly. This offer allows the purchase of the Celestial Steed, the Winged Guardian, or the Heart of the Aspects for half price, which, in the EU, equates to €10 or £8.50. In the US, all three mounts are available for $12.50 each.

With Christmas fast approaching, you may want to leave this article open on the computer of a family member, or a good friend, or maybe this is the perfect time to pick up a mount for someone special. If you’re planning to give a mount as a gift, do remember that, while the codes can be redeemed on any account via the Item Redemption Page, they are region-specific, so players wishing to purchase a mount in the US will need to do so via the US version of the pet store. It follows, then, that players wishing to buy a mount in the EU need to visit the EU pet store. Within those regions, though, there are no country-specific limitations.

Of course, these mounts count towards the various mount achievements available in-game, and with the changes in patch 5.0.4, are available on every character, rather than just on the one they were redeemed for.

EU guilds snatch both world first Sha of Fear kills

In a world first race that saw Method and Blood Legion pretty much neck and neck in WoW Progress’ points system, Method and fellow European guild Paragon snatched the Sha of Fear from under the noses of their US competition. WoW Insider sends their heartiest congratulations to both guilds!

It looks like the world first Sha of Fear kill went to Paragon, narrowly beating Method to the punch, but Method weren’t far behind with their world first 25-man kill. It’s an interesting conundrum, really, given how many people consider 25-man raiding to still be “proper” raiding. They’re opposed by the detractors of that view who assert that 10-man is just as hard and therefore should be considered in parallel with 25-man. In WoW Insider’s recent interview with Method, all their players asserted that the two were completely different beasts.

With Paragon, a previous world first guild in 25-mans, moving down to the smaller raid size that they had previously derided, it adds credence to 10-man raiding. But, in this tier at least, Paragon have so dominated their bracket that there’s not much competition. From Method’s completion tables, there wasn’t a single US guild in the running for the 10-man progression in this most recent, and final, world first race of this tier. Will more competition emerge? Earlier raids haven’t had such an EU-dominated 10-man race, certainly. Was it simply thanks to the holiday weekend?

For me, and this is only opinion, the reason I’ve followed the 25-man race more closely this time around is that there is more competition. Method, Blood Legion and Vodka have duked it out for the top spot all the way, with the closeness of the final Sha of Fear push making it a really exciting one. Blizzard Community Manager Taepsilum commented on a forum post that a stream of the race would be something they’d like to watch, and I agree, but I’d like to watch two guilds competing for a close win, rather than Paragon utterly controlling the entire race! But what do you think?

FS of Ravencrest-EU gets world first level 90? [UPDATE: Rolled back]

ah level 90 9 24 12 FS of Ravencrest EU gets world first level 90? [UPDATE: Rolled back]

While we’re not ready to declare it official, it appears the world’s first level 90 has been achieved. FS of the Ravencrest-EU realm dinged just a short time ago, according to GuildOx.

It’s important to take these early dings with a healthy dose of skepticism, as in the past they’ve been accompanied by swift action on Blizzard’s part when the leveling method has been discovered to be exploitative. Some high-profile people in Cataclysm took park in an exploit, only to find themselves slapped with a level decrease back to 80.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about this developing story, but if this is a legit power leveling, then it’s been done extremely fast. Mists only released in the EU a little over four hours ago.

Updated 1:30 a.m. EDT 9/25/12:

Apparently he’s been rolled back to 87, which follows what many in the forums are claiming (although there hasn’t been any evidence until now).

Blizzard clarifies Cross-Realm Zones

mopbetaracetrack Blizzard clarifies Cross Realm Zones
Blizzard CM Rygarius has posted a huge amount of information clarifying Cross-Realm Zones over on the Blizzard official forums. This much-discussed new feature has recently arrived on EU realms having been live on US realms for some weeks now, and has had a few teething problems that Blizzard continue to iron out.

Rygarius has clarified that Blizzard are still working to address problems with things like reporting and ignoring players, the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza, /who requests, chat spam, realm hopping, and Tol Barad and Wintergrasp. It’s always great to know that Blizzard are listening to player concerns, and if you have any more do check out Rygarius’ post to see how to report bugs or issues.

Rygarius also provides a complete 101 on Cross-Realm Zones, letting us all know how they work, how realms are selected to be joined, and how parties and groups work. Rygarius also addresses concerns about realm community, low-population realm economies, and clears up just exactly how CRZs will work when Mists of Pandaria launches.

Check out the full post after the break!

Mentor Guilds for EU and US realms announced

Back in July, Blizzard announced the Guild Mentoring Program, aimed at easing the process of connecting new players to guilds. Now, both the European and US servers have their initial mentoring guilds selected. These guilds will have their names temporarily changed to make finding them easier for new players, becoming Blizzard Mentor Horde or Blizzard Mentor Alliance for the duration of the program.

The Mentoring program is only available on the selected servers for now, so if you feel you’re in need of mentor services, check the lists to see if they’re available on your server. The program is specifically tailored for new and low level players to get an introduction to what being in a guild is all about, so if that’s you, definitely check it out.

Battle of Theramore scenario to launch Sept. 18

We now know exactly when the Battle of Theramore scenario will be available for play. From Sept. 18 to 24, the week before Mists of Pandaria goes live, we’ll be able to queue up for the scenario alongside two friends. This is straight from Vaneras over on the EU forums.

blizzimg4 Battle of Theramore scenario to launch Sept. 18 Vaneras – Battle of Theramore: One Week at Level 85
The Battle of Theramore, the first of many Scenarios coming to World of Warcraft, is a story-changing event that will be available to level-85 characters for one week only — the week leading up to the launch of Mists of Pandaria on September 25.

For the duration of the week of September 18-24, level-85 characters will be able to queue up for and participate in the Alliance and Horde versions of this new Scenario with two friends. (Please note: if friends are not available to you at the time, two will be provided. Batteries not included. Subject to change. Void where prohibited.)

After the lifting of the mists, the Battle of Theramore will join all other Scenarios as level-90-only content, and everyone — including players who missed it at level 85 — will be able to play through the event. Upon completing the Scenario for the first time, players will see the aftermath of the battle whenever visiting Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh. Theramore will eventually be changed permanently to its post-battle state in a future patch, sometime after the launch of Mists of Pandaria, whether or not players have completed the Scenario.

We’ll see you there!

So there you have it. You get one week to run the battle, be you Horde or be you Alliance, and then it’s time to level to 90 if you want to run it again. But unlike previous world events, this scenario will remain in the game indefinitely — if you miss it during that one-week period, you can always head back to it after you’re done leveling.

Mists of Pandaria releases September 25

sept25release real Mists of Pandaria releases September 25

Hard to argue with the official announcement right on the EU battle.net page and the US Battle.net page: Mists of Pandaria, the fourth expansion for World of Warcraft, will be available in stores and online starting Tuesday, Sept. 25. Pre-orders are live now.

Sept. 25 is a Tuesday, which is one of the preferred days for patching and other fun. The release date is a bit later than many expected, but Blizzard operates under the philosophy of “it’s done when it’s done,” so a later date only means we’re getting a product that’s been through a lot of testing.

You can upgrade to the standard edition and digital deluxe edition through your Battle.net account page now.

Update 9:30 p.m. EDT: Added the official press release announcing the release date. You can view it after the break.

Blizzard introduces guild mentoring program

Jul 10, 2012   //   by JeremySmith   //   Blog  //  No Comments

silvermoon guild master resize Blizzard introduces guild mentoring program

Blizzard today introduced the guild mentoring program, a new initiative aimed at getting new players involved with a guild. On select realms, one guild of each faction will become a mentoring guild, getting its name changed temporarily and helping usher in new players to all the fun that is WoW guilds.

The program isn’t very widespread, existing only on 14 US realms and 13 EU realms at the moment. There are lots of details of the program that are important to those looking to get involved in this.

Overall, this should be a nice way for Blizzard to not only encourage new players to find a virtual home, but for the veterans of us to extend a helping hand in a very warm, friendly, and Blizzard-backed way. It’ll be interesting to see what effect this has in the long term!

Check out the full blue post below for a FAQ:

blizzimg4 Blizzard introduces guild mentoring programIntroducing the Guild Mentoring Program
Azeroth — It’s a land of turmoil, harsh and unyielding for heroes of the Horde and the Alliance as they struggle against enemies from within and without. For those stepping forth for the first time into this implacable realm, life can seem overwhelming, but surviving in this hostile environment is not insurmountable with a little help. Will your band of brothers and sisters, heroes and mentors, heed your call for aid?

—–

Azeroth needs more heroes to rise through the ranks and your guild can help. We’re looking for a few good guilds to volunteer for the new Guild Mentoring Program. Guilds participating in the program will take part in identifying new players within selected realms, offering to invite them into the guild, and teaching them the ways of Azeroth as they level and reach the end game content.

F.A.Q.

Q. What is the Guild Mentoring Program?
A. The guild mentoring program identifies guilds on select realms to act as mentors for new and low level players (below level 85).

Q. How long does the Guild Mentoring Program run for?
A. The Guild Mentoring Program will run for a period of three months from the time that guilds are selected and notified.

Q. Is there a certain criteria for being selected as a mentoring guild?
A. Guilds must meet certain criteria to be considered for the Guild Mentoring Program:

  • Guilds must be located on one of the selected realms.
  • They must be willing to commit to the program for a three month period.
  • They must be willing to change their name for the three month Guild Mentoring participation period. (Names will be changed back at the end of the program.)
  • Guilds must be at least level 6 and have an active membership.

Q. How many guilds will be recruiting per realm?
A. Only one guild will be selected per faction on each realm.

Q. What does my guild need to do to volunteer?
A. The guild leader will need to submit an application to wowguilds@blizzard.com with the following information:

  • Current guild name and guild leader name
  • Current realm and faction of the applying guild
  • Current guild level and number of guild members
  • Guild leader’s real name and phone number (this information will not be published and is for internal use only)
  • Brief description of the Mentoring Guild

Q. How long are you accepting applications for?
A. We will be accepting applications for two weeks. We will then select a guild for the Guild Mentoring Program from those that meet the criteria and contact the guild leader.

Q. On what realms will this program be available?
A. Mentoring guilds will be chosen for the following realms:

US Realms

  • Aggramar
  • Azuremist
  • Blackhand
  • Cenarius
  • Dalaran
  • Dath’Remar
  • Doomhammer
  • Garona
  • Garrosh
  • Ravencrest
  • Saurfang
  • Sen’jin
  • Shu’halo
  • Ysera

EU Realms

  • Thunderhorn
  • Azuremyst
  • Lightbringer
  • Aggramar
  • Stormrage
  • Aszune
  • Thrall
  • Alleria
  • Dalaran
  • Malygos
  • Eversong
  • Arygos
  • Hyjal

Q. Do participating guilds get anything special?
A. Some of the benefits for taking part in the program include:

  • MVP status on the forums for the guild leader and recruitment officer
  • Guild member private forum access
  • Recognition for your guild as being participants in the program
